Structure Fire in Aspen Glen

Carbondale, Colo. – On December 31, 2020 at 12:09 p.m. Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 268 Rivers Bend, Aspen Glen.
Upon arrival, firefighters found home with heavy smoke pouring out of the chimney area. The home, which was full of smoke, was occupied at the time and the residents were able to evacuate safely.
The fire is under investigation, but appeared to start in concealed spaces in the home and had burned for some time before being discovered. This was an extremely difficult fire to find and extinguish, taking over 4 hours to put out the fire. The residence is heavily damaged and non-inhabitable.
Carbondale Fire will have crews patrolling and monitoring the building all night to watch for hidden fire or a rekindle.
“We are very grateful to our partners at Glenwood Springs Fire Department and Roaring Fork Fire Rescue, along with our volunteers and off-duty paid staff from Carbondale Fire that came to help fight this fire. It took all of us to extinguish this fire,” said Incident Commander Ashley Buss.
The fire is being investigated by Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District, but it is not believed to be suspicious. No loss amount has been determined at this time and no other structures in the area were damaged. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
Carbondale Fire responded to this incident with six apparatus and 26 personnel. Glenwood Springs Fire Department responded with an engine, ladder truck, and crews; Roaring Fork Fire Rescue responded with an engine and crew. Holy Cross Energy also responded to this incident.
